10 Week Course

 

DATES:  Every Thursday, February 22 – May 3, 2018

(No Class Thursday, March 15)

TIME:  6-9 PM

STUDIO:  MC 9

AGES: 16 and above, all levels

Our classically trained faculty teaches painting techniques and compositions, placing emphases on developing foundational skills and on pursuing a personal approach to painting from still life and from photographic references. Students receive individualized instruction and are encouraged to work at their own pace. In-class demonstrations will be done using oil paints, but students may use the painting mediums of their choice.  Students furnish their own supplies and may bring what they typically use to class.  For an idea of what supplies might be useful, see Suggested Materials List.

Instructor:  Miguel Gonzalez

Miguel, a recent alumn of Laguna College of Art and Design is a nationally-recognized painter by the Art Renewal Center, exhibits throughout the United States, and is an instructor at LCAD and at The Kline Academy in Los Angeles.  Please visit Miguel’s website to view his work:  www.miguel-a-gonzalez.com

Suggested Materials List

Solvent/Medium 

– Gamsol

– Linseed Oil or Stand Oil

Brushes

– Natural Filbert Bristles: #2, #4, #6, #8, #10

Oil Paint List

– Titanium or Cremnitz White

– Ivory Black

– Cadmium Yellow

– Yellow Ochre

– Cadmium Red

– Burnt Sienna

– Burnt Umber

– Venetian Red

– Permanent Alizarin Crimson

– Ultramarine Blue

Acrylic Paint Canvas Primer (students will be shown how to correctly prime a canvas on first day of class) –  8 oz. jar of either:

– Toned Grey;

– Burnt Sienna; or

– Manufacturer Golden makes a neutral Grey N5 that is perfect

Canvas – 1 per class

– Canvas Panel or Stretched Primed Canvas sizes 11×14 or 12×16.

Miscellaneous

– Palette (paper palette, wood palette or Glass palette w/ mid tone beneath)

– Palette knife

– Soft paper towels (Viva)

– Containers for solvent, oils & mediums (must have leak-proof lids)

– Paint keeper or box
